  • Why your flight planning app may show KSNS for the same airport
  • The number 26190 shows the date the FAA last changed the chart
  • How to read it: the year 2026, then day 190, which is July 9

Transcript

Start at the top. The title says AIRPORT DIAGRAM. The airport name, Salinas Muni, is at top right. In parentheses is the identifier, SNS, a short code for the airport.

Below the name are the city and state, Salinas, California. Your flight planning app may show KSNS for this airport. It is the same airport. The international code adds a letter in front. The number at top left, 26190, shows the date the FAA last changed this chart.

The first two digits, 26, are the year 2026. The last three digits, 190, are the day of the year. Day 190 of 2026 is July 9.

Next, we read the frame: the north arrows and the grid lines.

Before you fly, check the current airport diagram, the Chart Supplement and NOTAMs.
