Lesson D1 1:06 1 of 26
Learn what an FAA airport diagram shows, when to use it, and how to get a current one, with the Salinas (SNS) diagram.
The video plays from YouTube. FAA airport diagrams, d-TPP cycle 2611, effective 29 OCT 2026. Not for navigation.
This is the FAA airport diagram for Salinas, our home field. It is a map of the airport, seen from above. It shows runways, taxiways, ramps, and buildings. Use it to move around the airport on the ground.
Do not use it to fly an approach, a landing, or a departure. Before you taxi, find your route on the diagram. As you taxi, follow along. Then you always know where you are.
The FAA checkride standards list this skill: use the diagram when you taxi. Each diagram is good for a set time. The dates are on the side of the page. This one is good from October 29 to November 26, 2026. That is 28 days.
After that date, get a new one. Always use the current diagram. Also check NOTAMs before you go. They show runway and taxiway changes that the diagram does not show. Get the current diagram free from the FAA website, or in your flight planning app.
Next, we read the top of the page.
Before you fly, check the current airport diagram, the Chart Supplement and NOTAMs.
A discovery flight is actual flight training with a certified flight instructor at the Salinas Airport. Your hands on the controls, with the airport diagram on your knee.
