Lesson D11 1:41 11 of 26
Learn the 13 Salinas taxiway letters, how to say them, and how the signs on the ground match the diagram.
The video plays from YouTube. FAA airport diagrams, d-TPP cycle 2611, effective 29 OCT 2026. Not for navigation.
Taxiways connect the runways with the ramps. The diagram shows taxiways and parking areas in gray. Each taxiway has a letter. The diagram prints the letter on the taxiway. Salinas has 13 taxiway letters. Pilots say them with the phonetic alphabet: Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, Juliett, Kilo, Lima, November, and Papa.
Taxiway Alfa runs beside Runway 13-31. A long taxiway shows its letter in more than one place. Taxiways Bravo and Charlie run beside Runway 8-26, one on each side. The North Aero ramp sits where taxiway Lima meets taxiway Charlie.
Ground control gives your taxi route with these names. The AIM example says to taxi via taxiways Charlie and Delta. On the ground, signs and markings match the diagram. A yellow centerline marks the middle of each taxiway. The AIM says to keep the airplane centered over it.
A location sign is black with a yellow letter. It tells you which taxiway you are on. A direction sign is yellow with black letters. It names the taxiways at the intersection ahead, and each arrow shows the way to turn. In this AIM drawing, you are on taxiway Alfa. Taxiway Echo crosses ahead, to the left and to the right.
A destination sign points the way to a place, such as a runway or a ramp. Before you taxi, find your route on the diagram. Then match each sign to it as you go. Next, the runway holding positions.
Before you fly, check the current airport diagram, the Chart Supplement and NOTAMs.
A discovery flight is actual flight training with a certified flight instructor at the Salinas Airport. Your hands on the controls, with the airport diagram on your knee.
