About North Aero
North Aero, Inc is located at the Salinas Airport (KSNS) and serves Monterey County with basic to advanced flight training. There is nothing more important to us than you. That includes your safety and success in learning to fly.
At North Aero, we are focused on making a flight school for the 21st century. We take the good of what is tried and true and implement it in new ways to provide a better, more focused training service.
We don't do things the easy way. We challenge our students to ensure we are creating the best pilots to fly in the 21st century. Our curriculum and methods speak for themselves. We encourage you to come and find out why.
We aim to create fearless pilots. Eliminate latent failures. Reduce the GA accident rate to zero.
Emergency training starts at lesson three, before you solo, so the right response is a reflex before you ever fly alone. Rudder coordination gets taught in the Luscombe, an airplane that won't forgive sloppy feet. The whole curriculum is scenario-based from the first lesson and built past the checkride standard, not to it.
Every flight carries a cockpit camera and audio recorder, ours, and the debrief runs on the actual footage. Ground sessions are recorded and AI-transcribed so the notes survive the lesson. Our ground discussions are guided by NASA ASRS reports and NTSB investigations, including the August 2022 Watsonville midair, because the fastest way to remove latent failures is to study the ones that already cost pilots their lives.
You'll know your instructor by name before your first lesson, and you'll have their number. We publish our rates instead of hiding them behind a phone call. That's the whole philosophy: train honestly, past the standard, with nothing hidden.
Your instructors
Dedicated teachers are what make the difference at North Aero. Your success matters to our staff as much as it matters to you, and it shows in how we work.
Across the industry, many CFIs are building hours on their way to an airline seat, and students feel it when an instructor leaves mid-training. Our CFIs are not leaving for the airlines. We are here to teach the art of flying, because that is what we love to do. You will know your instructor by name before your first lesson, and you will have their number.
The Salinas Airport (KSNS) is a towered field, so you learn tower communication from day one. The Monterey Bay marine layer gives you real weather decision-making instead of endless blue-sky rehearsal, and the valley, coastline, and surrounding terrain put every kind of practice environment within a short flight.
