Flight Instructor · Phase 2 · Lesson 24 · Study guide
FAA references verified 2026-08-13 | v1.0, 2026-08-13
What this lesson is for: closing phase 2, and finding out honestly whether you are ready to be recommended for the flight instructor airplane knowledge test.
Not a cram session. If you arrive needing to be taught Area II content, the right response is to say so rather than to compress sixteen lessons into an hour.
Read:
FAA-S-ACS-25, Areas of Operation II and III, in one sitting. You have read them individually. Read them together.policy/KNOWLEDGE-TESTS.md.Deliverable: For each technical subject lesson in phase 2, one sentence on the single thing you would do differently if you taught it again. Skip any lesson where the honest answer is nothing, and say which ones you skipped and why.
standards/CRITIQUE-STANDARD.md.Standard 4 is completed, not passed. "Not ready" is a valid result and satisfies it.
You start lesson 25 anyway. No proficiency gate, same as lesson 7.
What it does is trigger the visibility rule in policy/REMEDIATION-VISIBILITY.md, so the extra work shows up as extra work. What it protects you from is paying for a test you are not ready for and carrying deficiency codes into your checkride preparation.
Worth reading before you get there, because most candidates expect the wrong thing.
Phase 3 is not more flying. Phase 3 is flying and talking at the same time, being assessed on both. Every lesson runs the same four-part cycle: brief, demonstrate, talk through, critique and debrief. The preflight ground lesson on the maneuver is graded, not a warm-up.
Four of the phase 3 lessons are recorded in the cockpit: lessons 25, 26, 33, and 38. You will watch yourself teach. Most people find the first one uncomfortable and useful in roughly equal measure.
Lesson 26 is the one to know about in advance. It isolates talking while flying, and the failure it is built around is going silent exactly when the workload rises, which you will not notice yourself doing.
Not applicable. Ground lesson. Every remaining lesson except 31 flies.
This lesson has no Video Slots.
