Flight Instructor · Phase 2 · Lesson 18 · Study guide
FAA references verified 2026-08-13 | v1.0, 2026-08-13
What this lesson is for: teaching night flying to somebody who has not done it, and covering the two high altitude tasks the ACS asks about.
Three ACS tasks in one 45 minute lesson, because two of them are genuinely small for a single-engine piston instructor. Padding them out would waste your time.
Read:
FAA-S-ACS-25, Area of Operation II, Tasks M, N, and O.91.205(c), 91.209, 91.211, 61.57(b).FAA-H-8083-25C, the night operations material, plus the October 2025 addendum.Deliverable: Write what you would say to a student, in about a paragraph, who asks whether night flying is more dangerous. Be honest. Then list the three things you would brief before their first night flight that you would not brief before a day flight.
